Territorial continuity refers to the principle and practice of ensuring transportation connections between mainland Italy and its islands.
With the purpose of maintaining economic, social, and cultural integration between the mainland and the islands the government has implemented various measures to promote territorial continuity, including subsidies for transportation costs.
The maximum subsidized rates include VAT and include the airport taxes and charges.
Territorial Continuity a fare includes:
- One checked-in baggage weighing no more than 23kg.
- One small bag (40x30x20cm) and one hand luggage (55x40x20cm) in the cabin for a maximum of 10kg for each passenger.
- Free check-in at the airport.
Online check-in is also available starting with 24 h before departure up to 3 h before departure but the passengers that check-in online will have to go by the check-in desk in the airport to present the documents attesting eligibility.
Routes
The routes included in the Territorial continuity program are:
- Rome (FCO) – Alghero (AHO)
- Rome (FCO)- Olbia (OLB)
- Milan Linate (LIN) – Olbia (OLB)
On the above routes the continuity fares are available on both one way or round trip bookings.
Documents
An identity document (or certificate of residence) proving the above conditions must be presented at check-in before departure.
If a valid document is not presented, the passenger will have to buy a new ticket at a regular fare to travel.
Eligibility
The fares for flights operated under the territorial continuity regime apply to the following passengers:
Sardinia Resident Passengers
- The disabled. (*) (**)
- University students up to the age of 27. (*)
- Young people aged 2 to 21. (*)
- Children under the age of 2 (infants) travel for free as they don`t occupy a seat. The above resident fares are also reduced by 30% for children from 2 to 12 years of age.
- Seniors over 70 years. (*)
(*) Without any discrimination related to nationality and/or residence.
(**) Disabled people with civil disability with a percentage at least equal to or greater than 80% certified by a report issued by the medical commission showing the percentage of disability.
NON Sardina Resident Passengers - during the IATA Winter season, non-residents in Sardinia traveling on routes included in the continuity program for work reasons are subject to the same fares as for passengers residing in Sardinia identified in the previous table.
To this end, when booking the ticket, the presentation of a declaration in lieu of an affidavit must be requested, pursuant to and for the purposes of article 47 of D.P.R 445/2000, as proof of the work reasons justifying travel. The declaration form can be downloaded here.
The rates applied to all non-residents in Sardinia, including those traveling for work reasons, and with the sole exception of the categories equivalent to the residents indicated above, are free in the IATA Summer season.
